How personalized NFC dog tags work
Understand tap-to-contact tags, compare Bone Link sizes and preview a personalized name and colour combination before ordering opens.
By Jeff & Christine ·Personalized NFC dog tags combine a visible pet name with a way for a finder to open owner contact information using a compatible phone. If you are comparing custom dog tags in Canada, it helps to understand both the design choices and what the NFC feature actually does.
Our Bone Link designer lets you explore a wide bone-shaped tag with a cream face, raised lettering and your chosen colours. Bone Link is currently a preview product: pricing and ordering are coming soon, and physical fit and NFC performance still need testing.
What happens when someone taps the tag?
NFC stands for near field communication. A programmed NFC tag can contain a web link that a compatible phone reads at close range. The finder follows the phone’s prompt to open that link.
Bone Link’s planned flow is simple: tap the back marked “TAP FOR OWNER”, open the contact link and use the supplied contact name, phone number or email to reach the owner. This is the intended service, rather than a live customer profile in the current preview.
Phone hardware, software and settings affect reading. Android’s NFC documentation explains tag reading and web-link handling; Apple’s NFC guidance covers the iPhone experience. Internet access is needed to load a web contact page.
What can you personalize?
Choose the bone colour and the raised pet-name colour. The border around the cream face follows the name colour, while the inner face remains cream. The reverse wording stays “TAP FOR OWNER”.
Enter the spelling you want and rotate the live 3D preview to inspect both sides. A darker name colour gives more contrast against the cream face. The lifestyle photographs show example names and colours; the interactive preview shows your own selection.
How do the two sizes compare?
Standard measures 2.4 × 1.7 inches, or 60.96 × 43.18 mm. Large measures 3 × 2.1 inches, or 76.2 × 53.34 mm. Those measurements include the attachment loop.
Large is 25% wider. Compare the listed dimensions with a ruler and your dog’s collar instead of choosing from a dog photograph alone. The reference images are illustrative, and Large remains a proposed size until test printing is complete.
Is an NFC tag a GPS tracker?
Bone Link is designed for tap-to-contact identification. It does not track a dog’s movements or show a live location. Its purpose is to help a person who finds the dog reach the supplied contact person.
